Family plays an important role in our lives, and today’s occasion is a special one dedicated to our siblings, as many parts of the world celebrate Siblings Day. Although National Siblings Day is not yet officially recognised in Malaysia, it is still a meaningful opportunity to appreciate the siblings who have grown up alongside us—perhaps even by surprising them with a thoughtful gesture or gift.
Did you know that one of the earliest forms of celebrating sibling bonds can be traced back to Hindu culture? The festival of Raksha Bandhan honours the relationship between brothers and sisters, making it one of the oldest traditions celebrating this unique bond.
Siblings Day as we know it today was established by Claudia Evart in 1995, in remembrance of her late brother and sister whom she lost at a young age. The date, 10th April, was chosen in honour of her sister’s birthday. Claudia also founded the Siblings Day Foundation and continues to advocate for the recognition of International Siblings Day by the United Nations.
Vision University College wishes everyone a joyful Siblings Day. Whether you are celebrating with your siblings or with someone who feels like family, may this day be filled with appreciation, love, and meaningful moments together.
